Our Approach to History Education
At Bickley Primary School, we are passionate about providing a high-quality history education that sparks curiosity and fosters a deep understanding of Britain's past and the wider world. What and How We Teach
We follow the National Curriculum for History, ensuring a well-rounded and relevant learning experience.
Our topics, such as pre-history, Romans, and Anglo-Saxons, are carefully sequenced, linking to our local area to make history come alive for our students.
We use the Chris Quigley scheme, organized into three milestones (Y1/2, Y3/4, Y5/6), providing depth and coverage of knowledge and skills.
Skills learned in History are connected to our 'Habits of Mind,' fostering a holistic approach to learning.

Teachers regularly mark work, referring to the Chris Quigley POP sheets.
The two-year cycle focuses on 'Basic' and 'Advancing' skills in the first year, progressing to 'Advancing' and 'Deep' in the second year.
